2 Carat Diamond Ring Guide
At Estate Diamond Jewelry we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have had many wonderful diamond engagement rings in our catalog over the years, and are privileged to have seen unique, 2 carat examples that are very special indeed.
If you are looking for just that little bit more in your engagement ring, our current 2 carat collection will surely have something just right for you.
Is a 2 Carat Diamond Engagement Ring a Good Idea?
If you are looking for an engagement ring that will stand out from the crowd but won’t break the bank, a 2 carat diamond ring is the ideal compromise. Although diamond prices do rise faster above 1 carat, the gradient gets a little steeper still when you go past the 3 carat mark. This makes 2 carat diamond engagement rings ideal as a discreet and elegant statement without looking too big, especially on smaller hands.
Although we have a wide range of 2 carat engagement rings available on our website, please contact us for information about our full collection.
How much does a 2 Carat Diamond Cost?
Below is a chart of approximately how much a 2.00 carat round cut diamond costs. It is critical to remember that these prices are the average amount and don’t account for all the other specifications that go into pricing a diamond.
Color Range | SI1 Clarity | VS2 Clarity | IF Clarity |
K Color | $13,000 | $14,000 | $19,000 |
J Color | $16,000 | $17,000 | $21,000 |
I Color | $19,000 | $21,000 | $26,000 |
H Color | $22,000 | $25,000 | $34,000 |
G Color | $25,000 | $29,000 | $45,000 |
F Color | $27,000 | $33,000 | $56,000 |
E Color | $29,000 | $36,000 | $64,000 |
D Color | $31,000 | $39,000 | $88,000 |
It can often lead to confusion when people realize that a 2 carat diamond costs more than twice that of a 1 carat diamond of identical cut, color and clarity. The reason is down to simple availability. As diamonds increase in size, so does their rarity. We see a lot more 1 carat diamonds than we do 10 carat diamonds, and of course, and this is reflected in the pricing on a rising scale above the 1 carat mark.
Any diamond is valued according to the 4 Cs – cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Assuming there are two diamonds at exactly the same weight, it all comes down to cut, color and clarity, and from the bottom end of any of the three measurement scales to the top it can make a significant difference to the price.
For example, a 2 carat diamond (VS2 clarity) of color K with slight inclusions might cost $14,000, but one of color D and internally flawless will fetch $88,000. Good ring designers can often make average stones look sensational, so don’t assume a diamond that isn’t quite perfect should be disregarded.
How Will A 2 Carat Diamond Ring Look On My Finger?
Of course, diamond size is only one aspect of the overall size of any ring, and it will depend on whether any other stones are used and the general design of the ring. The image below will give a general view of a 2 carat diamond engagement ring on the finger but, if you are interested in a particular ring in our collection, please contact us to discuss a picture of the actual ring.
As you can see in the image, the halo adds a large illusion onto the size of the diamond but takes away from the simplicity.
